TLANEXTLI, Fretwork Study

TLANEXTLI, Fretwork Study takes its name from the Nahuatl word for light, or radiance. A gray wall is carved into a field of rectangular recesses, grouped in square panels and turned vertical and horizontal in alternation, like the modules of a lattice screen. Each opening is drawn in depth: pale planes catch the light on the reveals, while the backs drop into a warm, earthen brown. Repeated across the surface, the cells build a rhythm of light and shadow that reads at once as ornament and as architecture. It is the original drawing behind adelavega's Fretwork series.

Printed on 315 gsm Cold Press Watercolour Paper, the textured matte surface gives the image a tactile, fine-art character while preserving subtle tonal transitions and intricate detail.
